We are Amanda and Barb, a daughter-in-law—mother-in-law duo stranded on……..a desert island?
No! We are “stranded” on a beautiful temperate rainforest Southeast Alaska island—Prince of Wales.
We love it here but miss the opportunities for our creativeness. Barb, her specialty yak fiber, yarn and gift shop located in the interior of mainland Alaska; Amanda, the shopping opportunities the “Lower 48” offered.
Barb’s favorite island movie quote from Six Days Seven Nights…”It’s an island babe. If you don’t bring it here you won’t find it here.” really sums up the current state of Prince of Wales (POW, as we locals refer to it.)
Decades before there were many thriving businesses of all types but they dwindled into the 21st century. With that in mind we decided to start a shop that offered those little creative things not found elsewhere on “the Island” and especially here on the east side of POW.
Hence, The Raven’s Nest.
A collection of many beautiful and crafty items, eclectic in nature—fiber, fabric, embroidery, kits, decorations, art, and so much more; and a place in our local community where our resident artisans can showcase their beautiful creations.
We hope you will find it as amazing, and comforting as we have in putting it all together for you! A welcoming place to gather!
The coffee (or tea!) is always on—and there may be scones! Come sit by the stove and knit, sew or just chat.
